Artist Statement
Autism is something that is currently coming in and out of the public eye for some of the worst reasons. Whether it be the fetishization of the “super genius” stereotype often popularized in mainstream sitcoms, or the nasty assertion that Autism is something akin to the horrors of cancer; neither of which should be the first thing you think of when the subject of Autism comes up. I wanted to use my film to open people's minds to what is a more true depiction of an Autistic person's life: someone who certainly struggles, with auditory and visual overload, but someone who is also more capable of mending their own struggles than what so many allistic people (people without Autism) have been led to believe. I strive to educate people of the cold stone fact that Autistic people are entirely capable of taking care of ourselves, making our own decisions, and leading the same happy life that anyone would like to achieve.
