Artist Statement
The intent of this work is to express the anxiety and frustration I’ve experienced this past year. I have created a series of animated gifs based on monsters and other characters I drew when I was feeling especially stressed. The inspirations for these scribbles were the panic or sadness that came from having extremely late assignments, falling helplessly behind in classes, and the usage of breakout rooms in online school or group projects in general. I had to scribble something out whenever there was an overwhelming sense of fear or a sinking feeling of failure from school. I worked intuitively and drew spontaneously. By animating them, I was hoping to give more life to the drawings. I am interested in animation and digital art so this project was an opportunity to push my technical skill. Overall, I had fun, practiced a new skill, and channeled my fears through art!
