Bio

Born and raised in San Antonio, Leslie Garza is a young aspiring artist who has been part of the SAY Sí's Media Arts Program since her freshman year in High School. Her strengths lie on storytelling, photography and mixed media.

Artist Statement

When I turned 17 years old, my life was turned upside down and I no longer could see normally. I was diagnosed with detached retinas, cataracts & scar tissue in both eyes. Over the next two years, I lost so much. I have been through 8 surgeries including recoveries. I lost my passion to create art as my sight began to fail me. The doctors & I are still working toward returning my sight to "normal". Through these photos I hope to show what it is I and many others with vision impairment go through on a daily basis. With God's grace, I've been slowly regaining my passion and I am happy to be creating once again. It is important for me to represent to others the significance of the gift of sight and how much can really be missed.
